I also did not hear a real Spanish Jam just a hint at the theme.

Might just be me.

They both sound unmistakable to me Max. I guess you cant expect the band to sound like they are at the Carousel Ballroom when they in the Nassau Colliseum...

The size of the venue won't change what the band performs on a sdb recording! Even if it sounds like shit in the room it still can be an outstanding performance....the boston garden is a great example.

You are completely missing the point!

Even you should be able to understand that the band sounds entirely different in 1981 Rich...

Rich, my analogy had absolutely nothing to do with the size or acoustics of those venues, but the chronologic time that the band performed there. Guess it was just a little too much for your simple mind...

Cliff, the ubertroll of the archive forum.
Dare not disagree with the genius of the man, for ye too shall be smote if ye dareth attempt to shed light on anything or fail to understand cliff's (meager) line of thinking when only a portion of what he means is actually printed on the screen. Get your mind reading devices out to read cliff's, and prepare for a short story.

I can summarize it:
"You all suck, except for the people who agree with me about the dead being shite when I went to see them. Not sure why I continued to go to 100 shows if it was so bad, mainly because I am a dolt. Suasponte is kochman, as is anyone else who disagrees with me in any form. Man, I love kochman. I wish he would love me back. OK, so, I am dating my cousin, and she won't let me smoke pot anymore. Since I am not a man after witnessing those terrible 100 shows that I was forced to attend, I let her run my life for me by default. That way, I can focus on trolling at the archive and being the resident jerk, since as Pink Floyd said, my life story with my cousin/love interest -"when they get home at night their fat and psychopathic wives thrash them within inches of their lives". I better post something rude on the archive so I can now gain the attention my mother never gave me."

Things a bit slow over at the Lost Touch-heads Pub, Koch?

Loved your thread on how the Europe tour of 1981 was so much better than Europe '72, especially your thesis on the repetitive set lists of that 1972 tour! What a shame that the Grateful Dead performed Dark Star eleven times! What were they thinking?

Nice how you treat your little whipping boy snow_and_rain!

Keep up the good work over there Kochman!

The typical kochman accusation, as detailed in the summation of cliff's miniature mind I posted above.

You are truly a retard cliff. Thanks for being so much fun though! I, and others I am sure, get great laughs from you being such a bitter, obsessed little hobbit - Cliff "Gollum" Hucker, let me give you a new moniker -
"The Broken Record"

Well, Dennis Cliff "Gollum" Hucker managed to attend over 100 shows in the 80s despite them being terrible. I think he can tough it out, he's got a strong stomach from all that time at sea (looking for his "precious fishies").

Hey Dead Max - from an old Head's perspective, the definitions change but the names they stay the same. The themes may not be exactly the same, but the basics hang around, hence folks just stick with the oldies. The Caution jam isn't exact, as you indicate, but it contains elements (speed riffing etc.), which bring it into the Caution stadium. The Spanish jam is similar - different genres have different sounds - like the keys, tonalities, and the way they resolve musical sentences. Spanish music sounds very distinct and even if they weren't playing the chords exactly as before, it's still the Spanish jam. I think Mr. Hucker explained this well below. Before the strafing. Just my humble....

I see what you are saying, DH, and I can agree with it.

But...

I still don't think that caution jam has any elements of caution except that it's kind of fast and crazy. This jam is just them not wanting to leave the stage just yet. Caution, on the other hand, had a distinct bass line that would bowl you over then Jerry would come sliding into third base under the bass notes and let 'er rip. This does not come close.

(I do see your point though)
